Marketing plumbing-and-HVAC shops in Manitoba

Manitoba's heating season is among the longest in southern Canada, and homes split between natural gas and electric heat. Combined shops can sell heat pumps as add-ons to both, while keeping plumbing campaigns alive through the deep cold.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Manitoba asks more of a furnace than almost anywhere else in southern Canada. The heating season is long, the cold is deep, and homes are split between natural gas and electric heat. For a combined shop, that split creates two different heating conversations, and a plumbing side that customers need most in exactly the weeks they're least likely to think of it.

The Manitoba market

Winnipeg is the market that matters most: most customers, most competition and the most expensive clicks. Brandon is the second centre, with Steinbach, Winkler and Portage la Prairie as fast-growing regional towns, and Thompson serving the North.

A combined shop working out of Winnipeg should decide early which surrounding towns it really serves, and build pages only for those. Shops in the regional towns can often dominate local search with a well-kept Google profile, reviews from both trades and honest service-area pages.

Two heating markets in one province

Because both natural gas and electricity heat a large share of Manitoba homes, marketing should speak to each:

  • Gas-heated homes: high-efficiency furnace and boiler replacement, plus gas water heaters, which sit on the plumbing side and often age alongside the furnace.
  • Electric-heated homes: heat pumps as a way to cut winter electric bills, and electric or heat pump water heaters.

Efficiency Manitoba's heat pump rebate applies to cold-climate air source heat pumps that supplement electric resistance or natural gas heating, so the same offer can be pitched to both groups, with different reasons.

Seasons and balancing

  • October to April: heating peaks. Run separate plumbing campaigns for frozen and burst lines and failed water heaters, which rise with the cold.
  • Spring melt: basement water, sump pumps and backwater valves. Push plumbing hard as heating eases.
  • May to August: cooling and heat pump quotes, plus maintenance plans for both trades.
  • September: autumn furnace checks to plumbing-only customers, and emergency campaigns set up before the first cold snap.

Regulators to know

We summarise and link; confirm your own obligations with each body.

Programs, as of October 2026

  • Efficiency Manitoba Air Source Heat Pump Rebate: $2,000 for a centrally ducted cold-climate unit or $1,500 for a ductless one, per the program page. Conditions apply; check them before advertising.
  • Federal oil-to-heat-pump grant: NRCan's page says 2026-07-31 was the last day for Manitoba applicants.

Date every rebate mention on your site and link the administrator, so customers can check the current terms themselves.

A Winnipeg example

A shop with 2,000 past heating customers might know from its records that about 600 have a gas water heater older than twelve years. A February message to those households, sent only where consent allows, offering a water heater age check would reach a group that already trusts the shop with its furnace. If 4% book a replacement, that's 24 jobs in what is otherwise a slow month for planned plumbing work. The illustration is ours; your records will give the real count.

How we'd approach a Manitoba combined shop

  1. Two heating pages, not one: gas-heated and electric-heated homes have different problems and different reasons to call.
  2. A spring-melt plumbing push timed to the thaw, sent first to past heating customers, who already trust you. See cross-selling.
  3. Emergency readiness for both trades in the same cold snap, with budgets split so one doesn't drain the other. See seasonal balancing.
  4. Winnipeg first, regions by evidence. Area pages only where you have jobs to show.

Manitoba plans carry 5% GST, plus RST only where it applies. See pricing, all regions, or contact us.

Frequently asked questions

What tax is added to plans for a Manitoba shop?

5% GST, at CRA rates as of October 2026. Manitoba's retail sales tax is added only where it applies to the service.

What heat pump rebate can we mention in Manitoba?

Efficiency Manitoba listed $2,000 for a centrally ducted cold-climate air source heat pump and $1,500 for a ductless one, for projects supplementing electric resistance or natural gas heating, when we checked in October 2026. Link the program page and confirm eligibility before quoting it.

Who regulates gas work in Manitoba?

The Office of the Fire Commissioner handles gas and oil-burner permits and tradesperson licensing, along with boilers and pressure vessels. We link to it and recommend you confirm specifics with the office directly.
